Our Second Trip
The Mighty Eighth Heritage Museum

June 1996

P51 Model

Hanging from the overhead was a beautiful P-51. On closer inspection, it turned out to be a fullsize plastic replica! What's the use of having an airplane if it doesn't leak oil all over your floor? Can I get one in the gift shop for my living room?

Bf-109 Model

See above rant for the Bf-109 as well.

The interior of the museum has a number of specialized displays of various units, including both bomber and fighter groups. Other presentations cover escape and evasion and the POW experience.

Some of this is not very pretty.
These guys may give war a bad name.

The Tuskeegee Airmen are represented in an extensive display. I've often thought how crushing it must have been to a fully indoctrinated member of the "master race" to be floating down in a parachute knowing his butt had just been waxed by a black man!

Lights On Phone Booth

The life of the Eighth's airmen in England is well documented, with photographic panels and other memorabilia.

There's more, but we've run out of pictures. Stand By!
