The Airfield That Wasn't There

If you look closely at this strike photo notice that there is nothing to see. We bombed an empty field. But for a good reason and with purpose. As our troops moved west the Germans prepared fallback fields for the Luftwaffe to retreat to. This was one of those fields. We bombed it so it couldn't be used as a fallback field for the Luftwaffe and the German planes flew around with no place to land and either the pilot bailed out or the plane crash landed. It was the airfield that wasn't there.
