ART KRAMER'S WWII STORIES

        DEATH OVER STANSTED

It was the  8th March 1944. A mission returning from  France, two planes collided on final approach in  bad weather, with fast moving, low hanging scud racing over the airfield. Both planes were from the 494th squadron  and all 12 men were killed  that day.  Lest we forget.

1st. Lt. John Eckert, Pilot
2nd Lt. Thomas W Worrell
1st. Lt. George E. Bair
S/Sgt. Alfred E. Border
S/Sgt. Lewis C. Thompson
S/Sgt. Edward E. Powell
Capt. Jack Miller, Pilot
2nd. Lt. Linwood C. Brooks
1st Lt. James A. Hudson
S/Sgt.  Abraham B. Butler Jr.
S/Sgt George G. McMannany
S/Sgt. William J. Summers

They came to a country that wasn't theirs, to fight for a people they  never knew. Let all those that knew and flew with these men never forget them.  Sleep well old friends.
